The Last Duel

I had my June book club meeting this morning. We discussed "The Last Duel" by Eric Jager. If you enjoy history, this would be a very enjoyable book to read (and not too long either).

Set in 14th century France, it traces the events of the last court case to be settled by individual combat. It was believe that God would make sure that the innocent party lived and the guilty party died in the duel. I won't give any more than that away in case anyone is interested in reading it. It is well written and very interesting.

Lake Front Property

We suddenly have lake front property. A HUGE storm came through last night that dropped up to 4 inches of rain. Buck Creek is larger than I've ever seen it. Another storm is just about to hit with more storms coming over the next few days. We had a little water in the basement already...and are hoping there won't be more!

Erin took a picture out her window yesterday and now took another one. Quite a difference!

Now a middle-schooler

Erin graduated from Grandville Christian School today. Our little girl is growing fast!

Doesn't she look nice in a dress?!

The Answer...

Well...I feel like I've kept all of you in suspense long enough. I know you are losing sleep over not knowing the name of Brant's baseball team. I hate to do that to you any longer!

I'm sorry to say that none of you guess the right answer. eleven first and second graders unanimously declared "The Ball-Eating Mermaids" as their team name (much to the chagrin of their coaches). So, at the end of each game we all cheer for the "mermaids" which doesn't seem quite right! Last Saturday was the first time I joined in on the cheer.

So, next time you are dissatisfied with your school mascot, you can think to yourself, "Well, at least we aren't the Ball-Eating Mermaids!"

Camp

While I'm collecting guesses for Brant's baseball team name, I thought I'd post a couple pictures of Erin.

The 6th graders at Grandville Christian spend three days and two nights at camp before they graduate on Friday. The parents were invited to join them Monday night for their sand-castle and sand-structure contest at Lake Michigan.

Guess The Name

We are in the middle of Brant's second year of little league. He loves it! In fact, last Saturday, while playing second base, he caught a line drive and doubled off the runner at first. Dad was so proud!

One of the fun things we did was let the boys choose the team name. We are sponsored by Grandville Plumbing ("GP" on the hats) and our colors are grey and black. I thought I'd put a few of the options they considered here as a multiple choice test. Which one do you think they overwhelmingly chose?

A. The Tigers (ala Detroit Tigers)
B. The Grey Pirahnas (GP matches the hat)
C. The Ball-Eating Mermaids (speaks for itself...)
D. The Plungers (obviously a plumber's tool)
E. The Snakes (another plumber's tool)

Any guesses? I'll give the answer in a day or two (if I get enough guesses!).
